Antique Victorian Velvet Chaise Longue Armchair by Cornelius V. Smith, 19th Century
Antique Victorian Velvet Chaise Longue Armchair by Cornelius V. Smith, 19th Century
Antique Country House Day Bed Armchair
An almost neoclassical scrolling silhouette with sweeping curves undulating in ergonomic bliss. A generous and comfortable seat perfect for reading a book or indeed lounging around.
With the original sumptuous button-backed golden marigold velvet.
Raised on turned wooden legs with brass and ceramic castors.
One of the back legs is stamped with the circular markers mark for Cornelius V Smith. The castors are also stamped with a slightly illegible maker's name but are potentially by Cope & Collinson.
Dating from the Victorian period, circa 1880s-1890s in date.
It is in good vintage order and is sturdy, comfortable and still very usable. The old velvet is worn in a couple of places, chiefly near where your feet would be positioned as well as on the back panel. A couple of the buttons are missing and some feel slightly loose but are still attached. One of the castors is a replacement but it is an antique example and a good match.
Approximate measurements 166cm long x 73cm wide x 77cm high. The seat height undulates between 34 and 37cm.
