Antique Original Oil on Panel Painting

Titled, ‘The Jubilee Minstrels, (2 Bullfinches, 1 Greenfinch, 1 Robin, 1 Nightingale, 2 Goldfinches, 1 Chaffinch)’

An extremely charming depiction of a collection of British garden birds all sitting on the same perch performing for the dawn chorus.

Painted in a folky, naive style which is utterly charming and expertly captures the essence and personality of each bird.

Probably dating from the 1860s-1880s, mid-Victorian period.

In its original and decorative faux-tortoiseshell lacquered and parcel gilt frame.

The painting itself is in very good condition with no real damage to speak of, there is some craquelure to the surface of the paint in places which has naturally occurred but this adds to its charm and is not distracting. The frame is also in good vintage condition with some minor wear consistent with age.

Overall measurements 62cm x 32cm x 3cm.
