Antique Japanese Straw Cutter
A sculptural and decorative piece made from elm and steel.
A fixed blade is mounted in a wooden frame in which lengths of straw can be drawn and placed and a wooden handle is then lifted and brought down over the blade to cut the straw.
Originating from Japan and dating from the late 19th/Early 20th century Meiji period.
Completely handmade and has wonderfully charming rustic construction throughout with natural wear built up over many decades of use.
It is in good vintage condition with wear that adds to its charm and tells its story. It could quite easily be bought back into use without too much effort if so desired.
Approximate measurements 76cm wide x 26cm deep x 26cm high (when the handle is down).
Delivery is £30 to the Mainland UK. If you live elsewhere please get in touch for an accurate quote. The shipping will automatically be added at checkout unless you select collection.
