Antique Coffer

An attractive and decorative coffer made from solid elm with a wonderfully rich honey colour. The front panel has deep-carved geometric motifs in relief and a decorative scalloped-edged apron underneath. Raised on sledge feet.

The single plank lid lifts up to reveal a deep storage area and the original candle section.

Originating from Spain and dating from the 17th Century Baroque period (1600s).

Retaining original ironwork including snipe hinge loop hinges.

Considering its age it is in very good condition, it is structurally sound and still very usable. It is largely all original however there are a couple of old repairs. There is obviously wear throughout which adds to its charm and tells its story. There is some old woodworm which is mainly centred around the feet, this appeared to be long dead. but we have treated the whole piece for good measure.
