Vintage Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer for Knoll
Vintage Wassily Chair by Marcel Breuer for Knoll
Mid Century Leather and Chrome Armchair
One of the most iconic chairs ever, a real design classic.
Inspired by the handlebars of his bike it was originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 in the Bauhaus and called the ‘B3’. Wassily Kandinsky loved it so much he asked for one (hence the new name). Not many from this period survive.
In the 1960s Gavina produced them in Italy under licence for Knoll who in turn still make them to this day. Clear indicators that this is one of those chairs are the good quality seamless chrome end pieces on the tubular frame and the black hex bolts. This along with the good quality , thick leather and wear commensurate with age attest this.
It is in good vintage condition, there is some wear to the leather in places and an old repair to the stitching. There is also some wear and tear to the chrome plating, nothing too serious but it is a period piece and all this adds to its charm and authenticity.
Measuring: 78cm wide x 75cm high x 67cm deep. The seat height at the front is 40cm.
