Set of Four Antique George III Mahogany Dining Chairs, Hepplewhite Design, c. 1800
Antique English Dining Chairs
A handsome and decorative matching set of mahogany dining chairs of Hepplewhite design with simple square legs and stretchers, reeded uprights and carved and reeded vertical splat backs modelled as stylised tulips.
Drop-in upholstered seats with purple velvet upholstery.
Probably dating from the late 18th/early 19th century period during the reign of George III. Circa 1800 in date.
The chairs are all very usable, and sturdy, and the joints are secure. There is wear throughout commensurate with age. There are also old, honest repairs to some of the joints on some of the chairs which are visible on close inspection but not so much when looking at them as a whole. At some point, probably in the early 20th century all of the chairs have had blocks added underneath to sure up the leg joints and make them strong.
Approximate measurements for each chair 86cm high x 49cm wide x 48cm deep. The seat height is roughly 45-46cm.
