Antique French Expressionist Tree Landscape, Original Mixed Media Painting, Late 19th Century
Antique French Expressionist Tree Landscape, Original Mixed Media Painting, Late 19th Century
Antique Original Artwork
A vibrant depiction of a forest landscape, a truly expressionist style with an orange background. The artist has used various materials in producing different textures to capture the mood of the landscape at that particular time. Sketchy blocks of colour in pastels suggest the background, black ink and charcoal outline the trees and branches mixing with thick white paint to the bark on the trees.
It seems like a quick sketch in the field probably painted in plein air.
Indistinctly signed to the lower right and dated ‘89’ for 1889.
Provenance:
Previously in the collection of the Countess de Fleury, 7 Bathurst Street Sussex Square, London, W2. Collection label verso numbered 173 and inscribed ‘From Agnew’s.’ The label is probably Mid-20th Century.
Earlier French label verso with a Name and a Paris address which is dated 1937.
Framed and glazed in its original and highly decorative gilt frame.
The artwork is in great vintage condition as it has been protected behind glass, the colours are vibrant and I cannot see any damage. The frame is also in good vintage order, there is some wear commensurate with age but this adds to its charm.
Approximate overall measurements 43cm x 31cm x 5cm.
