Antique Norwegian Folk Art Painted Coopered Barrel Stick Stand, Early 19th Century
Antique Norwegian Folk Art Painted Coopered Barrel Stick Stand, Early 19th Century
Antique Scandinavian Hand Painted Container
An oak coopered barrel stick stand with brass banding which has been lovingly painted with stylised floral and foliate decoration throughout, each side there is a landscape depicted, one side with a young man walking down a path with a windmill to the right of him and a cottage to the left, the other side depicts a river with a village behind including a windmill, perhaps another view of the same village.
A hard thing to date precisely but I would say late 18th to early 19th century 1780-1820.
Condition-wise I would say it’s in good vintage order for its age, everything is where it should be. From a decorative standpoint, for me, it is perfect, with just the right amount of wear to the painting on the barrel and verdigris-coloured oxidisation on the metal elements etc. but these could be cleaned up/restored depending on taste.
Measuring 45cm high x 31cm wide x 29cm deep.
