'The Little Prisoner' Etching by Francisco de Goya, 19th Century
Small Antique Print Published in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts and Printed by Delartre
In typical dark character depicting a prisoner bent over in pain shackled against a wall after being tortured.
After the original etching by Goya c. 1810 as part of the ‘Disasters of War’ series. Originally titled ‘Tan bárbara la seguridad como el delito’ (The custody is as barbarous as the crime) it was later titled ‘The Little Prisoner’.
This later impression made with the original plate was published in the Gazette des Beaux-Arts and Printed by Delartre in Paris 1867.
Framed and glazed In a complimentary, later frame and mount.
It is in excellent vintage condition with only very minor wear and tear.
Overall measurements: 37.5cm x 27.5cm. Etching measurements 10cm x 8cm.
