Painted after the original ‘The Virgin and Child with Saint John and an Angel’, Sandro Botticelli (1444/1445–1510) (studio of), The National Gallery, London.
An extremely well-executed and sensitive version.
Crommelin-Brown was an interesting and talented chap, he was a published poet, lyricist, soldier, schoolmaster and played cricket at county level for Derbyshire as well as being a talented artist.
Framed and glazed in a hugely decorative and complimentary giltwood frame with wave details and a circular gilt mount.
The painting itself is in very good condition, it has been protected well. The frame is also in good vintage condition with only minor wear and tear.
Overall measurements: 92.5cm x 92.5cm x 7cm.
