Original Vintage Oil on Canvas Painting, 1970s

Olwen Tarrant 1927-2012, was the first female president of the ROI (Royal Institute of Oil Painters), she later became one of only seven individuals to be made a fellow of that organisation. She painted from her studios in the Malvern Hills and Mallorca and won many prices over her career.

What a wonderfully unusual composition with a reclining nude in the foreground and a female painter with palette in hand behind. I am guessing this is either a self-portrait or could have been a friend and they are both painting the model at the same time from different angles. In the background, you can make out some furniture and a fireplace.

Tarrant has really captured the scene with skill and there is a lot of feeling in this piece.

Painted in oils on canvas which has been stretched over board.

It is in great vintage condition with only minor wear and tear, mainly around the edges, this would be invisible if framed but we love it just the way it is!
