Antique Original Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting a Female Sitter

There is something about this portrait that really drew me to it. I love the almost naive style that it has been painted in with little details like the beauty spot, lace collar and long chain but what really got me was the sitter’s face. The artist really has captured something quite lifelike with her expression and her dark eyes speak volumes.

French in origin signed ‘Cassonville’ and dated ‘1857’.

In a stunning gilt gesso frame.

The painting is in great vintage condition and seems to be original with no repairs or restoration. It is a little dusty but I like that, although could easily be cleaned up depending on taste. The frame has suffered some losses here and there over the years but this is forgiven when looking at the piece as a whole.
