Large Naive Portrait of a Seated French Girl, 19th Century

Large Naive Portrait of a Seated French Girl, 19th Century

£0.00

Antique Original Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting a Female Sitter

An earnest, rosy-cheeked young girl sat crossed (chubby) legged on the floor playing with flowers. She is sat in front of a red velvet curtain with a naturalistic landscape behind.

Painted very much in a naive folk-art style but executed well.

A later inscription verso reads: ‘Capt. Carl de Vaux Harding, French half-sister, huge generation gap.’ I can find reference to Carl de Vaux Harding, a naval officer in WWII. If he was around 40 in 1940 then that would make it quite the generation gap being that this girl is definitely sat slap bang in the 19th Century.

In a handsome period gilt frame.

The painting itself is in good condition; there are some areas of wear and tear but nothing serious enough to detract from the image.

Overall measurements: 93cm x 81cm x 7cm.
