Antique Ebonised Circular Tripod Table
An extremely decorative and romantic table with a fine hand-painted Venetian scene depicting figures in a gondola on a canal with grand buildings behind.
The table is also inlaid with mother-of-pearl and abalone shell and with gilt decoration throughout.
The table top is roughly circular but has a scalloped edge and a raised section in the manner of a ‘pie crust’ edge.
An extremely decorative bulbous turned pedestal and carved tripod base with mother-of-pearl inlay and gilt floral decoration throughout.
French in origin and dating from the second half of the 19th Century. Circa 1850-1870 in date.
The table is in usable condition with no significant structural issues. It is cosmetically worn throughout with rubbed gilding missing pieces of mother of pearl etc. We think this cosmetic wear adds to its charm and overall aesthetic and it is part of the reason it was selected by us. At some point, the top has been secured in place to the pedestal with brackets and the tilt-top function is no longer functioning.
