Early 20th Century American Surgeons Cabinet

Early 20th Century American Surgeons Cabinet

£0.00

Rare Antique Industrial Medical Cabinet

An absolutely stunning and very handsome piece, originating from America.

Made by the Philadelphia Surgical Instrument Co. Est. 1709 of Sansom St. Philadelphia.

This piece dates from the early 20th Century.

Made from wrought iron and steel with a porcelain work surface.

A cabinet above, originally for drugs and surgical instruments would make an excellent display case for a collection as it is not only glass fronted but there are glass sides as well.

Underneath the work surface are two swing out arms holding two original enamel bowls, one round one rectangular. I'm no expert but I reckon these were for surgical extractions!!!

Underneath that is another smaller glass fronted cabinet, held in place by the sweeping tubular legs.

The door clasps and hinges also have a cool industrial look to them.

This cabinet could be used really well in a bathroom or anywhere really, the possibilities are endless.

The cabinet is in excellent condition for it's age. It was built to last and is therefore very sturdy. Remarkably all glass panels are free from damage as are the glass shelves. even more remarkably the porcelain work surface is also free from damage. The doors, catches and hinges all work as they should. The unit has been repainted at some point but this appears to be a long time ago, probably when it was still in use, there are knocks etc. here and there to the paintwork but none of this detracts from the overall charm of the piece. Please see photographs.

Measuring: 142cm high X 58cm wide X 53cm deep (when bowls are tucked in).
