Pair of Antique Deep Seat Country House Bergere Armchairs With Green Velvet Upholstery, c. 1900
Cane Upholstered Lounge Chairs
A handsome and generous pair of comfortable lounge chairs.
Mahogany frames with decorative turned front supports and raised on squat cabriole legs. There is an element of Eastern influence in the design of the shaped backs and the aprons on the front of the chairs. By repute the chairs originally came from India and would describe the design as Anglo-Indian.
Cane work back and side panels.
Recently upholstered within the last few years in extremely high-quality Rosemary Hallgarten ‘Antoinette’ - 100% Kid Mohair fabric at great expense by the previous owners.
Feather-filled cushions.
Dating from the early 20th century period circa 1900-1920 and have been in the same family for many generations, probably since new.
The chairs are in great vintage condition. They are solid, sturdy and well-made. There is some wear commensurate with age. The upholstery is in excellent vintage condition. There are a couple of small holes in the cane panels.
Each one approximately measures 65cm wide x 90cm deep x 81cm high. The seat height is roughly 43cm.
