Antique Charles II Carved Oak Wainscot Chair, 17th Century Armchair
Antique Charles II Carved Oak Wainscot Chair, 17th Century Armchair
Early English Antique Chair
A generous-sized, handsome throne of chair which would grace all manner of interiors.
An arched panel back with shaped arms, a solid seat with turned front legs and square back legs united by an ‘H’ frame stretcher.
Profusely notch carved with stylised naturalistic motifs and geometric patterns.
Rich warm tones to the oak with a lovely patina built up naturally over time.
Purchased in rural Gloucestershire so it could quite possibly have originated there or in nearby counties on the English/Welsh border.
Dating from the reign of Charles II in the second half of the 17th Century, circa 1680.
It is in very good condition for a piece of furniture of its age, it has obviously lived a life so there are imperfections throughout but these add to its charm and tell its story. It is solid, sturdy and very usable. There is a crack to the left-hand side of the left rear panel but this doesn’t really affect use. There is wear commensurate with age and some old repairs. There is a small amount of old, dead worm present which we have treated for good measure.
Measuring 126cm high x 62cm wide x 61cm deep. The seat height is roughly 46cm.
