Antique Original Painting Depicting Birds (Budgie aka Budgerigar aka Common Parakeet)
A charming scene depicting two colourful birds in love, snuggling up to each other perched on a branch of what appears to be a hibiscus bush.
The Budgie, Budgerigar or Common Parakeet is a small seed-eating parrot native to Australia and started being kept in the UK as pets in the mid-19th Century.
Painted in a naive folky style with bags of character.
Dating from the late 19th century, late Victorian period circa 1880 in date.
Framed and glazed in its original worn mustard yellow velvet frame.
The painting itself is in very good condition as it has been protected behind glass. The velvet frame is somewhat worn over time but is highly decorative.
Approximate overall measurements 39cm x 34cm x 3cm.
