Antique Early Oak Carved Panel Niche, Wall Mounted Mirrored Shelf, 17th Century and Later
Antique Carving
An early oak carved panel with a central niche topped with a clamshell, above that swags of fabric are depicted. The niche is flanked on either side by hanging fruits, acorns, foliage and feathered game.
The central panel probably dates from at least the 17th Century if not earlier and possibly the 16th Century Elizabethan period.
At some later point, probably in the 18th or 19th Century, the carved panel was converted into a wall-mounted shelf with shaped shelves above and below and two mirrored panels on either side.
Overall the piece is in good vintage condition, it is solid and sturdy, there is cosmetic wear throughout commensurate with age which adds to its charm and tells its story.
Approximate measurements 39cm high x 37cm wide x 18cm deep.
