Antique Chinese Gold Silk Dragon Embroidery Panel, 19th Century
Antique Chinese Gold Silk Dragon Embroidery Panel, 19th Century
Antique Framed Eastern Textile Panel
A good quality depiction of a dragon using raised stumpwork and different stitches of silk thread on a gold silk satin background.
Does have some age to it, I would say it is at least 19th Century but could possibly be earlier.
This dragon has three toes, I was always led to believe that the number of toes of a dragon signifies where they originate from, five being Chinese and three being Japanese but after consultation, this dragon seems Chinese after all. Apparently only the empower could have a five-toed dragon.
Later framed and glazed in a sympathetic and complimentary manner.
There is some wear commensurate with age but nothing too serious.
Overall measurements: 51cm x 51cm.
