19th Century Naive Hand Painted Turned Wooden Box
19th Century Naive Hand Painted Turned Wooden Box
Antique Folk Art Lidded Pot
Hand-decorated in a naive style with a scene depicting some very hefty castle walls with multiple domed turrets with crucifixes attached. There is a small village in the foreground and cedar or pine trees. It appears to depict water in the background, possibly a sea or lake.
Possibly Russian, Eastern European or the Middle Eastern, if you know where this is I would love to know!
The top is decorated with stylised flower details.
Hand turned from one piece of wood and would have probably been some kind of souvenir wear.
It is in good vintage condition, there aren’t really any major splits as you commonly find with such turned wooden items. The decoration is worn in places as can be seen from the photographs but this adds to its charm.
Measuring: 19cm high x 13.5cm diameter.
