Vintage Swedish Ceramic Bulldog Sculpture by Lisa Larson for Gustavsberg, 1960s
Mid-Century Scandinavian Pottery Dog Figure
Lisa Larson (b. 1931) is one of the most renowned Swedish ceramicists of the 20th Century. She is known for her playful, warm-hearted and sometimes subtly ironic designs. Her work is featured in collections and museums globally.
This bulldog was the first bulldog she designed and originally formed part of her ‘Large Zoo’ series in 1959. Its bulbous, beefy shape and wonderfully charming expression have led to its enduring appeal.
Manufactured between 1960-1968 by the Gustavsberg factory from chamotte stoneware and hand decorated with mottled yellow-toned glaze and black line work.
