Victorian Taxidermy Tropical Birds Under Original Glass Dome
Victorian Taxidermy Tropical Birds Under Original Glass Dome
Antique Birds in Flight in a Naturalistic Setting, 19th Century
A dazzling array of five colourful tropical birds in flight amongst a thicket of natural bush.
We believe one may be a Golden Headed Manakin and have had suggestions of Roller Birds but we are starting to think that we may have one or two types of Honeycreeper if not more. Potentially a Blue Dacnis, Blue-grey Tanager and a Green Honeycreeper.
c.1880 in date.
In the original glass dome with ebonised base.
The birds are in great vintage condition and are still very vibrant, the setting and dome are also in good order with no chips or cracks. There is some minor cosmetic wear and tear to the base but this doesn’t detract from the piece.
Measuring 47cm high x 35cm wide x 17cm deep.
