Pair of Large Chinese Carved Hardwood Tigers, 19th Century
Pair of Large Chinese Carved Hardwood Tigers, 19th Century
Antique Polychrome Painted Hand Carved Wooden Tiger Figures
Exquisitely carved in striking and powerful poses with stylised muscle definition, open-mouthed and ready to pounce!.
Remnants of the original polychrome paint.
Unsure of the exact wood but their sheer weight indicate some form of eastern hardwood.
They are in very good vintage condition, the naturally weathered paint and wood’s aesthetic is part of the reason we fell for them. We think they are hugely decorative like this so have left them as we have found them. The density of the wood seems to have meant that they have survived largely intact. There is no real damage or repairs just some wear as you would expect around the extremities, like the paws and teeth etc.
They are both in slightly different positions, one is more curved and one is straighter. The straighter of the two is 92cm long x 30cm deep x 43cm high. The more curved one is 80cm wide x 38cm deep x 44cm high.
