Large Saint Thérèse of Lisieux Chalkware Statue, Early 20th Century

£0.00

Antique Religious Catholic Floor Standing Plaster Figure by Sylvain Brandeschi.

A large scale Catholic figure depicting Thérèse of Lisieux, a Frenchsaint whjo was born Marie Françoise-Thérèse Martin (2 January 1873 – 30 September 1897), also known as Saint Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face (Thérèse de l’Enfant Jésus et de la Sainte Face), was a French Catholic Discalced Carmelite nun who is widely venerated in modern times. She is popularly known in English as "The Little Flower of Jesus", or simply "The Little Flower,” and in French as la petite Thérèse.

Therese has been a highly influential model of sanctity for Catholics and for others because of the simplicity and practicality of her approach to spiritual life. Together with Francis of Assisi, she is one of the most popular saints in the history of the church. Pope Pius X called her "the greatest saint of modern times".

Polychrome painted ‘chalkware’ plaster figure.

Made by Sylvain Brandeschi in Brussels, Belgium and signed on her right hand side of the base.

The figure has seen some serious piety over the years and is in ‘prayer-worn’ condition. The paint has flaked and there are chips and areas of wear throughout, this is part of the reason we fell for her, we think this adds to her charm and aesthetic but is worth pointing out.

Measuring 122cm (4’) high x 40cm deep x 40cm high.
