Hand Painted Sicilian Folk Art Cart Panel, St George and the Dragon, 19th Century
Hand Painted Sicilian Folk Art Cart Panel, St George and the Dragon, 19th Century
Original Polychrome Oil on Panel Painting
Originally this panel would have formed part of a Carrettu Sicilianu (Sicilian Cart) traditionally used to transport items and also used to transport people at weddings and religious celebrations.
Painted with bright colours these carts would have either been pulled by a horse, a donkey or in some cases goats.
This example is decorated with a central panel depicting St George slaying the dragon and flanked on either side by traditional dancers.
It is in good vintage condition and free from any significant structural issues. There is some wear and old worm which we think adds to its charm and tells its story.
Measuring 105cm wide x 35cm high x 11cm deep.
