Vintage Framed Drawing Depicting a Dark and Macabre Hanging Scene
Vintage Framed Drawing Depicting a Dark and Macabre Hanging Scene
Vintage Original Pencil and Charcoal Study
Depicting a rather serious situation at the gallows, the victim of the hanging appears to have been hanging for a while and is being picked apart by crows. Three men in tricorn hats stand in front of the gallows, one leaning up against it with his back to the swinging corpse, the other two appear to be discussing the body in the grave below who appears to have a steak through his heart.
The drawing is well executed and confidently drawn, for such a serious situation the depiction feels ever so slightly humorous in its execution without being a caricature or cartoon-like.
Unsigned and probably dating to the early to mid-20th century.
It is framed and glazed in a simple black frame.
The drawing is in great vintage condition with no issues to speak of and only minor handling wear consistent with age.
Measuring 61.5cm x 51.5cm overall.
