Antique Original Oil on Canvas Painting Depicting a Female Sitter, 19th Century

Depicting a woman with a knowing glint in her large brown eyes and dressed in a fitted black gown, a lace collar and an oversized pink bow. She is sitting on a red chair in front of a romantic naturalistic setting with classical columns on the right.

The painting is unsigned, it is painted in a confident, quite loose and free manner with confident brushstrokes.

I would date this to the early Victorian 1840s-1850s period.

In a later, yet complimentary and highly decorative gilt frame.

The painting itself is in good vintage condition and is ready to hang. At some point in its life, the canvas has been lined and there is a possible old repair to the canvas in the sky to the left of the sitter’s head as well as some overpainting.

Overall measurements 99cm x 86.5cm x 6cm.
