Beautifully worn Bergaire Sofa

Beautifully worn Bergaire Sofa

I love how decorative this Antique Bergaire sofa is, the wear and patina it has built up over the years is so beautiful in my eyes.

The fabric is faded and worn and there is a large tear to one side of the seat and the back edge also, it has lost the fringing it once would have had to hide the join between the carved wooden detailing and the fabric itself.

Its been beautifully crafted with wooden dowels and hand carved ornate detailing to the legs and base. This is also slightly damaged over the years but is still good structurally although the central wooden stretcher is missing that links the back leg to the front leg so it is not as solid as it would have originally been.

The beautiful Peacock patterned Fabric is called 'Hera' from Liberty London and they still sell it today, here is some history on the pattern (taken from Liberty London);

"Named after the Greek goddess whose sacred animal was the peacock, Hera Liberty London Fabrics print was designed in 1887 and features an iconic peacock feather pattern. It is now part of the classic furnishing fabric collection."

Although I personally love the sofa in this untouched condition with all its wear I am sure some may prefer to have it recovered.

The caned sides are in excellent condition with no damage.
