Japanese Lacquered Corner Cabinet

Japanese Lacquered Corner Cabinet

Antique 19th Century Ebonised Corner Cupboard

This really is a stunning piece and was acquired from Lord and Lady Wardington's estate in Oxfordshire. Lord Wardington was known for being an enthusiastic bibliophile. Lady Wardington (previously Audrey White) was a red-headed model from Bradford who was best known for being refused a job reading the news for the BBC for being too beautiful.

Originating from Japan I would say that the cabinet dates from the mid to late 19th Century, has a lovely curved front and pretty decoration depicting figures, a house and foliage.

This is a great interior design piece whilst being a very useful storage solution. Great on the floor, sitting on top of another piece of furniture or hung on the wall.

Measuring: 91cm high X 60cm wide (at widest point). Each back edge measures 40cm each.

As usual we have bought something that is quite worn as this is the style we like. We have left it completely original but it could be oiled or waxed to bring out the lacquer if so desired. There is a bit of old dead woodworm in one of the back panels, we have treated this just to make sure it is dead. Please see photos.
