Huge Hand Carved Elm Dough Trough

Huge Hand Carved Elm Dough Trough

Hand Carved Dough Trough.

This is the largest of these troughs we have ever seen, it is a really impressive piece that can be used today in a number of ways, it would look great as a large table centre piece, full of fruit etc. or used as a planter or as a sculptural piece in it's own right.

This example originally came from Roma gypsies in Slovakia and would have been used to mix dough, make butter or as a vessel for carrying items such as crops from the field.

It is beautifully carved from a single piece of elm and the rustic carving marks are stunning.

It is hard to date precisely but I would date this one to the first part of the 20th century.

An genuine antique piece that fits with modern trends, would grace any vintage/eclectic/antique interior, either in a residential or commercial setting.

Measuring: 168cm long X 58cm wide X 31cm deep.

The trough is in great vintage order and structurally sound, obviously it has wear and imperfections all over it. This adds to the overall aesthetic of the piece. Please see photos.
