Small Mid Century Cumbrian Landscape

Small Mid Century Cumbrian Landscape

Vintage Original Oil on Canvas Naive Painting

The more I look at this little fella the more I like it. Depicting a farmhouse in  in amongst windswept trees with an ominous sky in the background. Using a muted colour palette and simple, impressionistic brush strokes the artist has managed to create a moody, brooding atmosphere.

It is in it's original artist made, crudely painted frame which seems to compliment it well, this painting would look excellent wherever you want to put it, whether mid century or a more traditional interior space.

There is an inscription verso. which reads '(MMWB) Dyke? Dike Ennerdale Cumbria" in pencil along the top, describing the title/location of the scene. There is also a further inscription in biro 'Steve Master St. Bees 47? 50?' I'm guessing this was later added and is probably the artist, school and rough dates. It really is very charming and the reverse of the canvas has also been painted

The painting itself is in great vintage condition with minimal wear, the frame is a bit worn around the edges but think this adds to it's charm. Please see photos.

Overal measurements: 40cm X 29.5cm X 2cm.
