A Pair of Stunning Hand Coloured Drawings by Pier Antonio Gariazzo

Dating from 1935 these charming drawings would have come from the artists sketchbook when travelling the Pacific. One depicts three Balinese dancers and the other depicts a woman in typical Tahitian dress is entitled 'une vahine' which translates as a woman of Tahitian descent.

They both have an accomplished style and capture the movement and subjects personality well whilst being quite free and impressionistic.

They are both in pencil on paper with hand coloured highlights of flowers and dresses.

Gariazzo, (1879-1964) born in Italy was an artist, engraver, writer and film maker. He travelled widely during the 1930s period and produced many works inspired by his travels.

These two drawings came framed in the same stylish silver frame what appears to be contemporary to the drawings but they could obviously be separated and framed individually.

Each drawing measures: 30.5cm high X 25.5cm wide. The frame measures: 50 cm X 27.5cm.

The drawings themselves are in good vintage condition. There are some minor signs of age as can be seen in the photographs. The one depicting the Balinese dancers is free from rips or tears. The one depicting the Tahitian female is torn on one corner. this has been done a long time ago as the tear has aged the same as the rest of the paper. It was probably done when the artist tore out the image from the sketchbook.
