19th Century French Portrait of a Boy after Murillo

19th Century French Portrait of a Boy after Murillo

Antique Oil on Canvas Painting after Murillo's 'The Young Beggar'.

We picked this charming painting up in a brocante in Provence, Southern France.

It is a really charming subject matter, depicting a young boy intently buttoning up his shirt.

It is painted after Bartolome Esteban Murillo's old master work entitled 'The Young Beggar' completed in 1650 this work is currently in the Louvre, Paris and our study represents a section of the original.

It has a soft feel to it thanks to the artists sensitive brush strokes and muted colour palette really capturing the sensitivity of the scene. I also love the use of shadows in the background adding to the overall feel.

I would date this piece to the late 19th/early 20th century period.

On the whole the painting is in good vintage condition with to rips or tears. The only thing I would say is that it is quite worn and rough around the edges. Please see photos.

Measuring: 65cm X 50cm.
