Antique Needlework - Sneeze for Danger

Antique Needlework - Sneeze for Danger

Needlepoint Embroidery Illustrating Mother Goose' Nursery Rhyme 'Sneeze on a Monday'

I had no idea about this old English proverb when I bought this, just thought it was weird enough and attractive enough for the shop. Turns out Variations on this superstitious old proverb go way, way back. It goes like this:

'Sneeze on a Monday, you sneeze for danger;
Sneeze on a Tuesday, you'll kiss a stranger;
Sneeze on a Wednesday, you sneeze for a letter;
Sneeze on a Thursday, for something better;
Sneeze on a Friday, you sneeze for sorrow;
Sneeze on a Saturday, your sweetheart to-morrow;
Sneeze on a Sunday, your safety seek —
The devil will have you the whole of the week.'

I think I like it even more now, probably dating from the early 20th century it has been framed up at a later date

It is excellent vintage condition, please see photographs.
